Last Roblox and some Java

This Saturday we’re finishing off our 4-session Roblox extravaganza. It’s been great to watch everyone create new worlds, as well as explore others created by fellow Roblox users. We’ve had a huge demand for these sessions and it was great to see that we could do it thanks to parents volunteering their time. We’ll be using this model again, but in the meantime, this Saturday will be the last Roblox session between 4:00pm and 6:00pm. We also have our next Java class at 6:00pm, so if you’re on this class, make sure you arrive in good time. Next week we’re starting a set of classes learning more about the Raspberry Pi. Spaces are limited so if you’re interested, please Join Our Dojo to make sure you find out about this first.

What else is going on at STEAM Lab this week? Well, we have the Isle of Man Linux User Group meeting this Saturday at 7:00pm. They’re a friendly and growing group for GNU/Linux, Open Source and Free Software users in the Isle of Man and hope you can join them. If you’re interested in learning more, check out their mailing list or tweet them at: @IoMLUG.

We also have a special Twilight Tech session this Wednesday at 18:00. This is a chance to see an exhibition of unusual ergonomic keyboards. On display is a vertical keyboard (with wing mirrors!), a chording keyboard with only 9 keys, one without any keys and another with switches made of optical sensors and magnets. Lots of keyboards in between, including some DIY kits. You will be invited to sign the guestbook using a 1940’s typewriter, and a brief talk with lots of chances for discussion. The Twilight Tech group meets at 6:00pm, just after work, and aims to conclude by 8:00 so that discussions may continue over a drink.

On a final note, we’re always looking for support to help us keep up our good work. If you can help by volunteering to run a session, please get in touch. We also have a number of things on our Amazon wishlist that we need to help us grow. If you want to help, you can buy us something from the list here: http://amzn.to/2sfYLyF
